The
Sri Lanka Development Forum -2005
The
Sri
Lanka Development Forum -2005 was held in Kandy, Sri
Lanka on 16th and 17th May 2005.
The Forum was inaugurated by Her Excellency the
President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri
Lanka, Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga.
Representatives from over fifty countries and
international donor agencies participated at this
important event.
The Hon. Prime Minister, Hon. Cabinet Ministers, senior
officials, representatives from the private sector,
trade unions, non governmental sector, civil society and
other stakeholders were also participated at the Forum.
The Forum was mainly focused on the post-tsunami recovery
and reconstruction process and the medium-term
development strategies of
Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lanka Millennium Development Goals Country
Report-2005 was launched at the Forum.
This
Forum was crucial for Sri Lanka, since the development
partners were given an opportunity to engage in a wider
consultative process. At the Forum the Post Tsunami
Reconstruction and Rehabilitation process and mid term-
development strategies of Sri Lanka were reviewed in
line with commitments for future assistance.
