Australia and Sri Lanka signed a Subsidiary Arrangement for grant assistance to work together on strengthening governance in Sri Lanka, through a four-year program valued at up to AUD31 million


The 15th Official Development Assistance (ODA) Evaluation Workshop, will be held   on February 07th-08th, 2018 at Gall Face Hotel, Colombo under the theme of “Evaluation Capacity Building in SDG Era. “

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and the Ministry of National Policies and Economic Affairs will jointly host the event.  Higher officials of the relevant Ministries of both countries, members from the Japanese ODA recipient countries and major bi-lateral and multi-lateral donors based in Colombo will be the participants of the workshop.

The workshop will be unique opportunity for government officials and experts of partner countries who are responsible for implementation, monitoring and evaluation of ODA to share experiences and identify further actions regarding ODA evaluation. Representatives from international organizations and donor agencies are also invited, so that the discussion at the workshop will help to enhance the participants’ understanding of ODA evaluation from various aspects. The results of the workshop will also contribute to future OECD-Development Assistance Committee (DAC) events.

Mr. K.D.S.Ruwan Chandra, Secretary, Ministry of National Policies and Economic Affairs and Mr. Minoru Masujima, Deputy Director General, International Cooperation Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Japan will deliver the Opening Remarks of the event. Dr. Priyanga Dunusinghe, Senior Lecturer, University of Colombo will Co-Chair the above workshop with Mr. Naonobu Minato, Visiting Professor at International university of Japan. Further, Mr. V. Sivagnanasothy, Secretary, Ministry of National Integration and Reconciliation will deliver Presentations on “The Role and International Trend of ODA Evaluation”.

The participants of this workshop are expected to share their knowledge and experiences related to ODA evaluation and discuss evaluation issues in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Ministry of National Policies & Economic Affairs will host the Welcome Dinner Reception on 07th February 2018, at the Gall Face Hotel.



Marking the over 45 years old development cooperation between the Sri Lanka and France, The Government of French Republic agreed to extend its assistance to Sri Lanka, by providing a Euro 13.9 million


The Government of French Republic Provides Euro 13.9 million Concessional Loan to Sri Lanka.

Marking the over 45 years old development cooperation between the Sri Lanka and France, The Government of French Republic agreed to extend its assistance to Sri Lanka, by providing a Euro 13.9 million (approximately SLR 2,514 million) concessional loan for the implementation of Development of Six Mini Dairies Project.

The proposed project will include complete modernization of the pre-selected six mini dairy cooperative societies and organizations by establishing state of the art equipment chains to produce pasteurized milk and sterilized milk at a capacity of 4,500 liters per day. The high quality equipment will allow stable, homogenized and high quality products with computerized monitoring. In addition, technical assistances will also be extended to dairy farmers in order to improve the breeding process by a French non-profitable entity and to carry-out a proper market survey on the dairy sector of Sri Lanka.

It is also expected that, this initiative will support the Government’s ambitious target to achieve self-sufficiency in dairy production by 2020 and to contribute to closing the gap between demand for dairy and local supply.

Secretary to the Ministry of Finance and Mass Media, Dr. R. H. S. Samaratunga signed the relevant Protocol Agreement on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka and Mrs. Isabelle MISCOT, Chargée d’affaires of the Embassy of France in Sri Lanka, signed the relevant agreement on behalf of the Government of French Republic on 27th December 2017. Mr. Hervé SARNELLI, Economic Counsellor of the Embassy of France in Sri Lanka also participated in this event held at the Ministry of Finance and Mass Media.



ADB Board Group Visit – January 2018

A Group of Board Members of ADB comprising Executive Directors and Alternate Executive Directors visited Sri Lanka from 27th to 31st January 2018 to discuss ADB projects and also visit project sites.

The visit was a good opportunity for the board members to gain experience on the overall development activities of Sri Lanka. The members paid courtesy call to HE the President and Hon Prime Minister on 30th January 2018.
